That sums up the case of black soldiers convicted in connection with a World War II race riot in which an Italian prisoner of war died at Seattle's Fort Lawton. On Friday, the U.S. Army said it would overturn the conviction of Private Booker Townsell who was convicted of rioting in the 1944 fracas. If you heard or watched members of Congress questioning Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker on their testimonies before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee this week on how things are going in Iraq (in a nutshell, swell!), you probably caught a senator or two addressing the duo as though they were the only other adults in a room full of impressionable children.

Winston Churchill once said that you could always count on Americans to do the right thing after they tried everything else. Well, we have tried everything else to "fix" health care, except the solution that will work: single-payer, universal health-care coverage. It's the right time to do the right thing...

We are overwhelmed with facts and figures every day, so when presented with this important opportunity to discuss child poverty, I looked for data that might immediately crystallize the magnitude of the problem and urgent need for America to eliminate child poverty in the richest nation on earth.

"A year ago, Americans went to the polls and voted for a President, but we got two instead. We have George W. Bush, the President of domestic policy, appointing a self-described fashion god who left the Gulf Coast under water. And we have Dick Cheney, the President of foreign policy—an area that includes secret CIA prisons around the world."

"House Bill 3791, to provide assistance to individuals and States affected by Hurricane Katrina, poorly addresses the issues relating to unemployment and a wrecked economy. This bill is like throwing a 100-pound sandbag on a ruptured New Orleans levee. There's some relief, but it's altogether inadequate."

"The President, rested after five weeks of paid vacation, returns to the White House with new data showing so much is up under his administration. Gasoline prices are up, dramatically. Oil company profits are up, obscenely. And Americans know the sky is the limit in other important economic indicators as well. Bankruptcies are up. Poverty is up. And the number of uninsured Americans is way up."
